Using ethnography, her research is focused on broadening participation, combatting inequities, and enhancing public engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Carrigan is a recipient of a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award for her research into the intersections of gender, race, and social values in computing. In 2025, Carrigan received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Her book, Cracking the Bro Code, is available from MIT Press.</image:caption>

Within the Valuing the Social in Computing Lab, he reviews emerging literature on social and political challenges within the technology industry, specifically focusing on its connection to government. Outside of the lab, he studies international relations, with a concentration on East Asia. From South Korean developmental corporate structures to the effects of Japanese colonialism on current political affairs, he engages with political science and legal history as his primary studies. Through his work in the lab, his aspirations are to review the intersection of corporations, data privacy, and surveillance, reveal the continued harm of ‘techno-orientalism,’ and explore how artificial chatbots interact with copyright and intellectual property law.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>(she/her/hers) Graduate Research Assistant Danya Khreshi is a second-year Master of Public Policy student at the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. Within the Valuing the Social in Computing Lab, she reviews literature on social and legal issues of power differentials, accountability, and consent in the technology industry. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2025 with a degree in Cognitive Science, concentrating in neuroscience, and minoring in bioethics. Her capstone research examines technology-facilitated coercive control within intimate partner relationships and proposes policy solutions for the United States. In addition to her academic work, she serves as a paralegal in business litigation and has previously interned with the DC Bar Association.</image:caption>
